Full Eye Examination

Much more than just checking if you need glasses or contact lenses, a full eye examination also checks your eyes overall health. Regular checkups can help catch early signs of possible diseases and degeneration. Eye examinations include checks for:

  • Refractive error - These are the most common problems and are corrected by glasses or contact lenses. The 3 types of refractive error are myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia(farsightedness), and astigmatism.
  • LVA - During our comprehensive examination we will also do a Low Visual Aid assessment.

  • Amblyopia - Amblyopia is caused when your brain blocks signals from a turned or highly perscribed eye. If untreated amblyopia can cause permanent vision loss due to slow visual development.

  • Strabismus - Strabismus is when one eye turns inwards or outwards relative to the other eye.  If left untreated strabismus can lead to amblyopia.

  • Glaucoma - Glaucoma is one disease that it's important to have regular check-ups to catch, because the early stages have no symptons. It's caused by the degeneration of the optic nerve, the cord that connects the eye to the brain and can lead to permanent vision loss.

  • Macular degeneration - Macular Degeneration affects your central vision needed for reading and driving.
